The fifth investigation of the ULSAM men was started in April 2003 and ended in April 2005. At the beginning of April 2003 there were 971 men, who had participated in 70 and/or 77 year-old examinations, alive. 952 men among the 971 were still living in Uppsala county and thus were invited to the 82 year examination. Of the invited, 530 men (56%) participated in the investigation. 15 men out of the 530 were unable to particpate in the hospital examinations and were visited at home by a nurse.
The investigations include anthropometrical measurements, blood pressure, blood and urine sampling, bone density measurement by whole body DXA, ECG examination, tests of cognitive function, questionnaire, and a dietary investigation.
