Portrait of Professor Ulrika Winblad in journal about elderly care
2022-12-13
The popular science journal Äldre i centrum, aktuell forskning om äldre och åldrande, has published a portrait of Ulrika Winblad, professor of Health Services Research. It provides a background to Ulrika's career path as well as a description of her research. Ulrika talks about health services research, which she describes as interdisciplinary with a focus on systems, economics, organization and results in health care. In the portrait, Ulrika states that one of her big research questions of interest, relate to governance and the implementation of state reforms in the decentralized Swedish healthcare. What interests her is partly how regions and municipalities receive the reforms and what effects the reforms have on quality, equity and accessibility. She has done a lot of research on the effects of market reforms and privatization in elderly care and healthcare and reflects on the dilemmas that can arise in researching topics close to politics and how decision makers can use the results. Finally, Ulrika describes what future challenges she considers elderly care to be facing with an aging population and increasingly higher demands on elderly care.
